Tracy,
I've heard FTP described as a security nightmare. That said, it is of course a
very popular and easy to use file upload/download mechanism and there are
several methods available to secure and encrypt transmission. If you are
concerned about other parties having access to your data, then you should ensure
that asecure FTP method is utilized. I was amazed at how easy it is to 'watch'
the flow of unencrypted data back and forth across the internet.

This link provides a summary of different encryption methods and also lists
various FTP clients and which methods they support.

Hi All,
We are switching from bisynch to ftp for our VAN communications. I
have concerns about security. It is my understanding that secure ftp
is not so secure; besides, my VAN (sterling) does not support secure
ftp anyway.

For those using ftp to your van, are you worried about security? If
so, what are you doing about it? I am specifically interested in QRS
and Sterling VAN's. We will be using GIS as our translator on a Unix
box.

No sales please. Thanks!
