RE: FTP to VAN

You might as well hack the NSA systems or torture an NSA analyst for the
back door keys for these US governed encryption before waiting for the
sun to become a white dwarf.

A typical practice is to have 1024 bit RSA encryption (used for
asymmetric public-private key pairs) shroud the 3DES 156-bit symmetric
key (actually used to encrypt the data). Supposedly - and I'm no
mathematician and not in a position to differ - our life-giving Sun will
be reduced to a pathetic white dwarf well before you could crack these
schemes with a brute force attack using conventional gear and known
algorithms.
Isn't that good enough for the CEO? It probably doesn't matter. He's
too busy figuring out his bonus plan to worry about technical crap like
this.

The key phrase is 'for all practical purposes' <bg>
All encryption can be cracked. It's just a matter of time (and computer
power).
Here is just one example:

If someone _really_ wants to get the information, they can.
I think that was the point that Bob was making.
