Problem with MQ adapter in mercator6.5.1

We are using an EAI application software (Mercator) to read messages
from a queue. The application is configured to read upto 1000 messages
at a time and delete them after successful read/process. Once in a
while, some of the messages are not getting deleted even though they are
successfully processed by the Mercator application. After reviewing the
trace files, Mercator's support said that MQ manager is not flagging the
left over messages as "processed" and reporting a 'warning' instead of a
failure for those mesages. MQ is reporting a RC of 2003 for these
warnings. Here is an extract from the trace file:

The question is why does MQ treat a failure as a warning instead of a
failure.
Thanks
