RE: ebXML & Microsoft's Business Collaboration Framework

I'm not sure it should be that puzzling. Seems to me (I don't recall the
details too clearly) that just after the ebXML specifications were
finalized, that IBM did it's best to distance itself from ebXML by helping
to start up WS-I and carry the Web Services banner.
Frankly, this rings of the aspect of standards that annoys me the most.
Politics and competition. They say the beauty of standards is that there
are so many to choose from. That's because, when you get right down to it,
there isn't a single business that's in it for altruistic reasons...they're
looking for their niche, their advantage. And if that means changing sides
or doing end runs around the other guy, then that's what they're going to
do. On the other hand, the fun part is watching everybody do the next big
thing gavotte every 6-18 months.

Subject: RE: [EDI-L] ebXML & Microsoft's Business Collaboration
Framework
Reading this and other articles it would seem to me that Microsoft is
feeling highly threatened by ebXML and its adoption around the globe.
Unfortunately, Microsoft as the deep pockets to seriously derail
ebXML....unless the open source community gets totally behind it like they
did for Linux, as a colleague reminded me of this morning.
What is also puzzling to me is IBM's involvement here with MS. IBM was a
major contributor and participant in the development of ebXML.
