Before I give out any expensive bids, I generally find out some details,

such as:
what translator?
what transactions?
what hardware?
do you have specs?
Minor details to be sure. But they do allow my outrageous pricing
schemes to be considered to have some possible validity.

There are lots of EDI vendors on this list. The answers to the above
questions will help them help you. And who knows, you might actually
find a few that are so far from the financial reality of your company
that you might get your wish of keeping it in-house.

I have no idea of your arguments for keeping the mapping inhouse.
However, in my world, it is wiser to pretend to have an open mind about
these issues rather than try to dictate the results of the search.
