Re: ISA16 - sub element delimiter

ISA 16 is the "composite element delimter for this interchange" and delimits the
subelements of composite data elements.
You don't say what standard version, but thru 004011, segment REF element 2 is
not a composite element, and therefore there is no
"official" way to say some character delimits information in that element.
Segment REF element 4 *is* a composite, so if ISA16 were "|" and your segment
looked like...
REF*ZZ***this is| an example| of a string | that is sent | in the ref02
..then this would be valid.
Not long on tact here, but suggesting that REF02 can be 'officially' delimited
like this clearly was spoken by someone who need not
worry about airfare to Oslo, because he/she is not going to be picking up ANY of
the Nobel prizes, if you get my drift.
