Subject: VAN Survey
I am assisting a technology market research firm that working on a
report on the comoditization of VAN services. One of our goals is to
get a clearer picture of the volume/price relationship as companies
renegotiate VAN fees in these days of severe price competition.

To the members of the group, I would ask that you email to me the
volume of traffic that you are sending through your VAN (in kilo-
characters, number of documents, etc.), the rate(s) that you pay your
VAN (per kilo character, documents, etc.) and if you are comfortable
telling us, the name of your VAN. We know that some VANs are
offering cell-phone pricing models where you purchase a block of
usage and we would ask that you convert it to a per kc or other basic
rate (or if you prefer you may send us the amount you are paying and
we will convert it to a base rate based on your volume - plesase note
that we are not really looking at what companies are paying for their
total VAN invoices). We understand that there are often other
charges for things like mailbox fees, interconnect fees, etc., but
for this study we are looking at the most basic volume-based fees.

We suggest that you reply directly back to us, not to the board. You
may reply blindly or you may include your company name. The user
company information will not be included as the information is
aggregated. If you do include a response email address, we will
email a copy of the Executive Summary of the report when it is
completed in approximately 90 days. All information will remain
confidential.

Thank you for your assistance. If you have any questions, please do
not hesitate to email me.
