Hi.

Like everything else in life, "it depends." If you read the official "purpose"
of the 870, it says one of its functions is to be used to respond to forecasts.
The Electronics and Computing industries didn't like the legal ramifications of
using 870 (it implied that the forecasts were firm, bookable, buildable) and
said, "No, we're using a modified 830 to respond to planning forecasts." But
there is more than one forecast business process. For Material Release, an 830
or an 862 may be the correct response. For SMI, 870 may be used. See
http://www.comptia.org/sections/eidx/guidelines/gs_xrefs_fc.asp#FC1.

What would be the response document for the 830 (Planning and Schedule
forecast with Release capability)? For the 850 you have the 855. I was
wondering if there is something similar for the 830.

Thanks in advance,
