Re: <TECH> Paired Elements

Dan, the translator I currently use does not validate paired elements. I've
also used translators which prohibit unbalanced pairs (including yours, I
believe). The latter slightly reduces errors in outbound documents.
Turning it off allows more flexibility in handling data from partners that
are more creative in their interpretation of EDI standards (not that a
trading partner would EVER violate EDI standards). In practice, they are
not much different. The only difference I experienced was needing a patch
or fix to handle non-standard formats with software with stricter validation
The difference then becomes how responsive the software vendor is in
accommodating your requirements.

Subject: [EDI-L] Paired Elements
I've got a question about how other translators handle generating
paired
elements. My translator does not allow me to generate a document containing
data in the 3rd element of the N1 segment without having data in the 4th
element because they are paired elements. Why do other translators allow
this violation of standards?
Oh, I'm not just talking about the N1 segment, there are a number of
segments I see this problem occurring in.
