RE: <TECH> Paired Elements

Hi Art,
TLE 4.x has it's faults like the outbound tanslator will allow a date
format of 000000 that it's own inbound translator will reject, but n103 and
n104 syntax isn't one of them. The standards database includes the syntax
checking, which you can include yourself, even failing that to prevent
yourself headache from rejecting, I usually don't put data flags on
qualifiers and check existence of input fields on move commands.

Paired Elements
PM
A few years ago, I worked with TLE 4.x and from time to time had outbound
transmissions rejected by the receiving partner for this very reason. The
outbound map expected data in the input application file that was not
there.
For example, we would move the value '9' to N103 and the data element
DUNS+4
to N104. However, DUNS+4 was blank. The problem was caused by the
application database being incompletely populated.
I asked the support people at Harbinger (now Innovis) why TLE allowed a
document to go out with syntactical errors. Their reply was, "we figured
the sender would do the checking, so we didn't need to build it into the
product."
I use Softshare Delta now. Although occasional data problems crop up,
Softshare Delta fails the outbound translation, affording me the
opportunity
of correcting the outgoing data before it is sent. In the unlikely event I
want to accept bad data, Softshare gives me the option to do that.

I would venture to say that the trading partner violating the X12.6
SYNTAX does not understand that the SYNTAX must be followed.
