clean up their data prior to sending it to any trading partner. I can see the
need to do this for repeat offenders that don't
conform to EDI standards. I have a few I would like to send stuff back to
myself.

The '997' Functional Acknowledgment and TA1 Interchange Acknowledgement are used
to report compliance errors. The '997' is GENERALLY
used only for "X12 Error" reporting, not for "application" error reporting.

And it's not just errors on the sender end: transmissions can/do get garbled
(though not as often as they used to), resulting in a
compliance error and the need to resend.

Need to read TA1 / 997 and make sense of it?

http://www.talsystems.com, click on '997' icon.

Download demo version from
http://www.talsystems.com/tsihome_html/downloads/setup997e.exe

This link is not currently available from the web site - you have to enter it in
your browser or click on above. From the available
link you only get the ZIP version of the install... the "setup.exe" version is
easier for most people.

When installed, hit Help/Explain Report. Very nice explanation of the '997' --
alone that's worth the cost of a license ($25.00,
with discounts for multiple copies. Not too much EDI software available at
twenty-five bucks or less, is there?).

To Order? Hit Help/Order-Registration form. The software will print out an order
form with complete price list for you.
