RE: <Off Topic>Web Site Techniques

Stephanie,
I can't imagine where you get your idea that we are opinionated <g>. But
David is right. Your friend will lose business if he plays games with
peoples' time.

Stephenie,
As you are probably aware there has been endless research into the subject
of what makes a web site grab and hold peoples attention. The unfortunate
part is that people do not have long attention spans when it comes to web
sites (or anything else). If I can't tell what the web site is offering by
its home page chances are it is either pornography or a get rich scheme,
both of which I pass on. I would suggest putting the hook on the home page.

Subject: [EDI-L] <Off Topic>Web Site Techniques
Hi.
Hoping you will help me out, because you guys are so good at giving
opinions. I have a friend who wants to sell a service on the web ... a
little e-commerce ... he wants the first page to say:
<Name of company> is "NOT" your typical web site!!!
He want the users to go through two more pages of why they should use this
service before they get to the main page of the web site. I know what I
think. I'll either get validation from you or reasons why I'm wrong. If
you've got a moment, please tell me what you think. Let's pretend we're
selling consulting services or some such thing.
Thanks,
