RE: EDI Maps for 7-Eleven

John,
I have been on this list for many years and have also as EDI
professional given tips and advice and posted enough to this group. I
have worked in many
EDI environments on the vendor, customer, and EDI provider side.
I am a member of the Southern California Ecommerce Board and a
frequenter at the UCC conventions. So, I know what it's like when you
say " EDI compliance does not come free.".
Anyway, I am not looking for an already translated map for a specific
EDI translator. I am looking for an Implementation Guide. I already made
a request for 7-11 to send me one, and just wanted to get ahead start on
implementation.
People have exchanged EDI specs on this list before. I was not aware
that it's unethical or is not allowed to exchange EDI maps on EDI-L.
This is not the first time. Just because I work for an EDI provider and
I am not self employed does not mean that now I have less privileges on
this list.
Thank You,
Michael Kotoyan

Subject: RE: [EDI-L] EDI Maps for 7-Eleven
Michael,
Before replying I took the time to check out your company's website and
came
across this quote:
"With Direct EDI's flagship web-based system our clients avoid the cost
of
software and hardware purchase and the cost of I.T. support staff."
I really, and I mean REALLY hope that Michael Mattias is right and what
you
are looking for is a source for 7-11 Implementation Guides, because if
not
then you are not only in the business of putting most of us on this list
(Those "expensive" IT and Consulting resources your marketing bits claim
your customers won't need) out of work but you also want US to supply
you
with the intellectual property that the same "expensive" IT and
Consulting
resources have already developed. And you want it free of charge.
EDI compliance does not come free. You either invest the time and money
into
training in-house resources, you spend the money for consultants to do
it
for you, or you pay a third-party like your company and outsource the
whole
shebang(ie: the gift that keeps on giving!). In the end it all comes
down to
choosing the best overall solution to meet a given company's needs
and/or
resources.
As Michael has already pointed out 7-11 is your best resource for
Implementation Guides. Most of us on this list are only too happy to
help a
fellow professional find resources, or will offer tips and suggestions.
Please don't be offended if we stop short of giving away the whole
store. As
for the actual maps, well those are proprietary to a given software
solution
and B) to the company that licenses the software and pays to have the
maps
developed.
John
