No kidding. 'tr' will do the job fast. Of course, calling your trading partner
and asking them to adjust your delimiter would be even faster. Most translators
allow for this very easily, and your trading partner can make this adjustment in
5 minutes or less.
Part of EDI is reducing the number of moving parts.

why bother with a map at all? you can use an awk script, a perl script,
a file fix program
(language of your choice), a sed script ... lots of choices. a map is
slower and only complicates
things.
