It's valid ;-)

It's some throwback from a long time ago.
One of the VANs (I think it was Advantis/Sears) actually used the ID with
spaces for their internal mailboxes. They broke apart the 2 components which
were separated by spaces.

It's very confusing, since you have to have the correct number of spaces, etc..
Worse, the ISA had 3 spaces but the GS had only one.

You _could_ suggest that your partner get another ID. There is usually no
charge for additional IDs.
