RE: Is EDI dead?

Gee, whiz....binary XML sounds suspiciously like ED doesn't it?I!!!!
"Could you define binary XML?
Leventhal: An off-the-cuff definition is that this is XML at the sacrifice
of human readability that encodes XML information in a more efficient way
for processing by computer programs. The main concerns are processing speed
and compactness."
Tim, would you say that EDI (X12 or UN/EDIFACT) is human readable? I would!

Just for fun. Is XML still human readable in its binary format?

Enterprises are expected in 2005 to spend more on XML acceleration
appliances to offload performance hits until a single binary XML format is
ratified.

The format of the messages doesn't have a lot to do with whether it's batch
oriented; I wager that I could write a very efficient and robust realtime
processing system that chewed on X12 and EDIFACT transactions just as easily
as XML. (Not saying it'd be as easy to write, just that the transactions
would be processed realtime in a similar fashion to XML.)

Darn right! It's all about the Benjamins. Business people don't care about
XML, EDI or $INSERT_MARKUP_LANGUAGE_HERE. Just provide results, accurately
and quickly.
