<TECH><GTIN> may group no longer uses UP qualifiers

For some of you who may trade with the May Group (lineup of Retailers which
include Filenes, Famous Barr, Robinsons May, Lord & Taylor, Hechts, Meier Frank,
Marshall Fields and Foley's).
Starting yesterday, 1/5/05 they've illuminated usÁgÅ of "UP" qualifer in the PO1
segment on the EDI 850 Document.
They are one of the few retailers really converting to GTIN methodology, using
"UK" qualifer and 14 character GTIN number instead of UPC. GTIN used by May is
same as UPC, but has 2 leading zeros. Both QRS and GE catalogs are generating
such GTIN IDs automatically based on your UPCs submitted on your 832s or entered
manually, which has worked out great in our environment since we did not have to
develop a double standard (maintain both UPCs and GTINs on our ERP).
BTW, the actual merchandise is still ticketed with the UPC codes, which gives me
a hope that 852s I'll get next week would still have UPCs on them (yeah, right).
You may want to make sure your 850 maps are both UP and UK compatible (incase
you have to go back and retranslate some of those older PO's). I found that a
lot of the older maps were limiting usage of the PO107 to just 12 characters, so
you may want to be careful with that :-)
Outbound 856 and 810 transactions would also have to have a GTIN ID instead of
the UPC. As far as I know 856 and 810 recertification is NOT required.
If anyone has more information regarding GTIN Sunrise (TP Specific
announcements), please share them with the group.
Hope this info helps someone.
