Subject: RE: [EDI-L] XML Hierarchy Question
We could probably debate that for hours, weeks, months (or should I say probably
_will_?). I'm confused by the term "implied". It's always hierarchical in that
there is always a root tag and everything else must be beneath that. EDI (to
which I'll assume you're comparing) may live in a "flat" file format but is
logically hierarchical (that's what loops are).

Having said all that, I would think the amount of hierarchy in your data (model)
might serve to dictate the appropriateness of hierarchical structures within
your XML documents.

To all:

Along the lines of the XML discussions, I was wondering what the group
thought.....

Should you build an XML document with an implied hierarchy (i.e. detail must be
a child of header) or should you build it flat (i.e. detail and header at the
same level? Why would one method be better than the other?
