RE: Want to start learn edi for apparel company

I am not sure how much the NRF has on EDI, but they do not develop EDI
standards for the retail industry. Granted the apparel industry does use
the NRF size and color codes (US and some in Canada), however the EDI
standards and guidelines in use are the Voluntary Inter-Industry Commerce
Standards (VICS), administered by the Uniform Code Council (UCC). Remember
this is primarily US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand and is based in
ANSI X12 EDI Standards. I am not aware of any retail or apparel specific
guidelines for the EDIFACT messages. The EANCOM guidelines are not specific
to any industry. Individual EAN/UCC (named GS1) numbering organizations
such as AMECE (Mexico) may have detailed guidelines in the local language
for use within the country or a region.
The VICS EDI Guidelines may be found at
https://solutionscenter.uc-council.org/index.html. However you will need to
be a member of UCC to have access to the solution center. The main item of
interest for your question are the following:
* VICS Architecture Guidelines,
* VICS /UCS EDI Financial Guideline,
* VICS EDI Ship Notice Manifest (TS 856) Guideline,
* eCommerce Transport Communication Guideline,
* Trade Item Identification & Communication Guideline, and
* VICS EDI Implementation Guidelines V004020 - V005010.
Now this only covers the demand side of the apparel business and that sill
leaves the sundry suppliers (button, bows, thread, etc), fabric suppliers,
machine parts for laser cutters & sewing machines (wait that has been moved
over seas!). Now we have not even gotten to the financial area like lock
boxes, letters of credit, bank statements etc. Oh yes we have the carriers
(all four modes), importers, customs, etc.
So, what part of the apparel EDI functions are you really interested in?
