Re: EDIFACT BII and UNS segments

the UNS Segment is an EDIFACT Service Segemnt used to separate the Head
from the Body and the Summary of a message. It's main purpose is to
cluster those messages, to avoid amigious grammar. That way you can
safely recognize a skipped body or header.
Most of the recent UNTID Messages use them, some dialects most often do
not use them. It is a good thing, if the converter check them (and the
content of the data element). Actually the data transformation machine
should treat UNS+D' different from UNS+T'. (like it is two different
segemnts). In that case he can asure a complete structural syntaxcheck
on segments, only.
The Standard says
"UNS - Section Cotrol
"
"Can be used to separate header, detail and summary sections
"of a message.
"
"NOTE: To be used by message designers when required to avoid
"ambiguities. Mandatory only if specified for the type of
"message concerned.
"
" 0081 a1 M Section Identification 'D' or 'S'
BII is not a classical service segment, it is used in the following
messages:
CONDPV CONDRA CONDRO CONEST CONITT CONPVA
CONQVA CONTEN CONWQD PROTAP
In Condro for example (Drawing organisation message) it gives content
structure semantics to the loop containing details about the drawings.
Greetings
Bernd
