What I do not understand is why your info is "4th party." Either "PointServe"
has a documented interface or it doesn't. If they do, they must make the specs
available to users, or it really isn't an interface at all. (That, or it's one
of those, "Oh, we did that once so it must be a standard thing now."). (I was in
the software business for a number of years and I know how
'client-funded-development' works, OK?). So go to PointServe and ask for the
documentation.

Assuming there is an interface, and you do in fact have a choice of ANSI [EDI]
or XML, I suggest you start with the partners - those who must read or write
whatever data PointServe wants/provides. Which is better for them?

Personally I could care less if data are XML or ANSI [EDI] format; however, if
you are dealing with a lot of different document specifications, you could
probably obtain XML software less expensively than ANSI EDI software which is
capable of supporting multiple documents using multiple ANSI standards.
