RE: Using VANs or AS2?

Look, I am moving to AS2 but there are problems with
doing so. Sure, you reduce Van costs, but you also
increase complexity of your system doing point to
point. Think about it, instead of dealing with one
communication node (the Van), you now have to deal
with many.
Previous to this, I have been using AS1 (SMTP)
for some time now. You have to take into
consideration the extra mainentance time it might take
to keep AS2 running and if your trading partner has
the technical expertise to deal with problems on their
side.
So, yes, you save money on Van costs, but all
parameters need to be taken into consideration before
taking the leap to EDI-INT.

<<We are at such a point in mankind's evolution where changed conditions
invalidate all our policies that have been so successful even in the recent
past, and that presumably have constituted the ideal response to a presumably
unchanging and unchangeable human condition. No wonder we are stupefied and
confused-but our mistake is the same which many cultures have made before us,
namely to force a rigid model upon a fluid reality.

Life of Human Systems"
