<LIST>,Filters

Subject: <LIST>|Message Filters

As President Bush said last night: "It is my hope that in the months
and years ahead, life will return almost to normal. We'll go back to
our lives and routines, and that is good. Even grief recedes with time
and grace."

So will this list eventually as it relates to its discussions.

With that in mind I propose we place message filter identifiers in the
subject of messages that you send to the list.

These are what I propose:
<SALES> - designates a message marketing your product
<JOBS> - designates a message for a job opening or stating that you are
available for jobs
<LIST> - for posting messages or questions related to this list
<TECH> - designates a message regarding technical questions/issues.
<MISC> - for off topic discussions.
<EVENT> - to list an advent such as conference or user group meeting
<PRODUCT> - for posting general questions about a product

Please use a pipe "|" to separate the identifier and the subject.

For example in this message the subject reads <LIST>|Message Filters.

You may think of this as a pain or picky at first, but you will get
better response to your questions or discussion if we know what category
it falls under before we read the message. This has also worked out
well in another list that I belong to with much more traffic than this
one.

You can also use these filters with Message Rules in your email program
or the equivalent to sort incoming mail from EDI-L in your inbox,
into separate folders. If you need help with this let me know.

We are all used to reading EDI anyway so picking an identifier should be
second nature. :-)

Please discuss this over the next week and recommend more identifiers
that you think will be helpful. I will close discussion on this at the
end of next week and we will put this helpful feature into place then.

Thank you,
