Subject: future of EDI

(from today's San Jose Mercury News, by Christopher Kelly, (817) 390-7032

For everyone who sat through Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey
thinking, "Not bad, but needs more explosions," well, here comes Stealth,
in which Josh Lucas, Jessica Biel and Jamie Foxx all play second fiddle to
a talking plane named EDI. With his icy, mellifluous voice and a pitiless
tendency to blow Third World cities to smithereens, EDI certainly has his
charms. But that's about all that can be said for the perfunctory and
terminally dopey Stealth, a movie with delusions of 2001 that barely rises
to the level of a fourth-season episode of Knight Rider.

In the David Hasselhoff part here is Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama), as the
cocky Lt. Ben Gannon. Along with Kara Wade (Biel) and Henry Purcell (Foxx),
Ben is part of an elite trio of pilots who, in the not too distant future,
test top-secret stealth war planes. Enter the ambitious Capt. George
Cummings (Sam Shepard), who has spearheaded the design of "EDI," a plane
that flies itself and thinks for itself and eventually decides it wants to
launch a nuclear war..........
