Subject: <MISC> Swiss EDI invoicing
Hello List,

(James has already answered this, here are some more details)

Inside of swiss, you can do fully electronic invoice exchange with EDI, if you
sign the invoices with a cerificate from TC TrustCenter (Germany) which you can
get from Swiss' EAN. With this certificate (smartcard or HSM) you can sign
EDIFACT INVOICE messages with authak. However as far as I know this is in the
first step only true for domestic invoicing.

It might be also true for other european countries (especially germany because
TC TrustCenter operates there), but it is for sure not useable for countries
outside of the EC.

To my understanding the only alternative you have are paper documents, in case
of multiple invoices you may send sumamry invoice lists via paper. I dont think
that PDFs are legal here.

There is BTW a possibility to have a third party send those signed invoices. If
the third party is inside swiss it ight be an easy technical solution. However
the cross border invoicing between you and the third party might be actally
pretty complicated (from legal point of view).

Greetings
Bernd

PS: for those who need more info, the swiss tax office (Eidgenössischen
Steuerverwaltung) ESTV has issued a order on electronically transmitted data and
information (ElDI-V) which regulates this. Since there is no aggregated
ceritfication provider in swiiss right now, they chosed to use an european
neighbour (TC TrustCenter) and asked EAN.ch to be the role of the Registration
Athority.
