RE: Label software

We've used Loftware for over 4 years without issues. I am also
investigating using them as a possible RFID tag solution. We use
Monarch printers at the moment.

Subject: [EDI-L] Label software
Hi,
I recommend Loftware Labelling (www.loftware.com). We have
used it for
quite some years and are very happy with it. Support is also
very good
(even on US holidays which is very handy when you also support a
plant in
Mexico).
Loftware can interact with any system (EDI, ERP, etc.) because
once all is
set up and designed on the server that is running Loftware, the
only input
to produce a label is a plain text file. The software does not
require a
dedicated server; the plain text file tells the system which
pre-defined
(by you) label format to use, provides the variable data, which
printer,
number of copies, etc. This can actually be quite a small file
depending
on your needs. Also, by using variables for data, it makes it
very easy
for a single format of output from your system to create
multiple
variations of the label (very handy for, let's say, ASN bar code
labels
where each Trading Partner wants the same info, but in a
slightly
different format).
For example we use the same Loftware instance whether creating
labels from
our WM system, SAP, or EDI. This can be for case labels, ASN
labels, or
even those customer specific labels that some people pay big
bucks to have
pre-printed for them. We can whip together a new format on
demand that
allows our shipping folks to type in what they need and print
labels on
demand.
By the way, I'm not a salesman, just a happy customer. I like
the
separation of the application producing the data from the
concern of how
to print a bar code. For example you can do it in SAPscript if
you're a
masochist, or you can let SAP write out a flat file (which it
can handle
nicely), then let software that is made to produce bar codes
handle it.
Tell label format "A" that the zip code is to be printed in
text and with
bar code; tell label "B" to print the text only.
Also, multiple types of printers can be specified for output,
depending on
your needs. Some printers can be thermal transfer printers,
such as
Zebra, for those 4x6 labels, but you can just as easily define a
laser
printer to print the bar codes to (example, need a cheat sheet
of with
several rows and columns of your UPC codes on them?). In fact
by using
software that creates a PDF file by emulating a Windows printer,
we have
emailed PDF files of labels to remote sites, which printed them
on a laser
printer, and there was no problem reading them with a scan gun.
Sorry if I got carried away. Hope this helps.
