eC-BP memberships, alliances, and sponsorships

Hello All;

Clarity is important. That's why I've always tried to be clear about
eC-BP's mission and affiliations. I'm sorry to hear that I've missed
the mark in some cases, and I'll try to clear things up.Regardless
of who is funding the eC-BP, its charter, tenets, and editorial
content speak for themselves. The sponsors (yes, we do have sponsors
who pay the bills) have the opportunity to suggest stories that
deserve coverage, but they do not have editorial rights.

The bulk of the stories that appear on the eC-BP site do not mention
any of our sponsors, while some of the case studies do mention them
because the case studies were recommended as good examples of eC-BP
practices. As for myself (and Cecil) appearing in any Owens Direct
trade show booths, I assure you we have not. In fact Owens Direct
tells me they have not had a trade show booth to appear in since eC-
BP has been in existence.

Memberships
I've rearranged the "Members Sites" page (http://www.ec-
bp.com/member-sites.asp) to better reflect the separation of the
different membership categories. I've also included the membership
criteria at the bottom of that page. There are 3 levels of
membership, and 2 of them are free of financial cost:

Certified member: an individual or company that understands, agrees
to, and adheres to the eC-BP tenets. This could be any company (hub,
vendor, etc.) or individual involved with EDI. There are no fees
involved in becoming a Certified member.

Affiliate Member: a company that actively participate in eC-BP by
promoting through publication or other means to be determined on an
individual basis. Examples are GS1US, Line56, York Solutions. (EDI
solution providers, please see the Sponsors section). There are no
fees involved in becoming an Affiliate member.

Sponsor: provide continuing financial support to eC-BP. Companies
engaged in providing EDI services or software may apply to become
Sponsors. Sponsorship arrangements are available on an individual
basis. If you are interested in becoming an ongoing sponsor of eC-
BP, please contact us.

Agendas

As for swaying people to Owens Direct, there is any mention of Owens
Direct, or any SPS competitor in the stories. The goals and tenets of
eC-BP are exactly what they seem to be... an effort to promote the
best practices in e-Commerce and to reduce the barriers to adoption,
particularly for smaller would-be trading partners.

eC-BP only recently began to actively solicit members, and I will
take this opportunity to invite any individuals or organizations to
join eC-BP as Certified Members, Affiliates, or Sponsors based on
the categories above.

Let's keep trying to make this business more open to more players,
and easier to participate in without any hidden agendas. We are
always open to your questions and views.
