Re: Calling it what it is

Thanks Art;
Note: We recently revamped the site and I'm trying to hunt down the
old links. The easiest way to find any of this is from the menu on
the site at www.ec-bp.org. But I'll also post the specifics here.
Thanks again;
Scott Koegler
Editor, eC-BP.org
The goal of EC-BP is to establish a set of standard practices that
are mutually beneficial to its members and to all eCommerce
practitioners. Companies that embrace these standards will benefit
from the collective experience and judgment of the EC-BP membership.
Participation in EC-BP by listing a link to your company's web site,
along with your company's logo on the EC-BP site extends the right
for your company to promote EC-BP by displaying the EC-BP logo on
your company's web site.
The basis for EC-BP's membership and participation begins with
recognition and adoption of these essential tenets:
The elimination of EDI/eCommerce testing fees.
These fees create a barrier to the expansion of the implementation
of EDI, and contribute to a negative image of the industry. The
testing process serves only to delay implementations and add
unnecessary costs to the process.
The elimination of mandated third party providers or proprietary
systems.
eCommerce practitioners need only mandate standards of electronic
commerce and give options to trading partners for providers .
An open systems approach to standard compliance promotes a
consistent interoperability, leaving the choice of vendor open to
each supplier's specific needs.
The elimination of EDI to FAX by establishing Internet access as a
minimum business requirement .
EDI to FAX is not a scalable technology and does not allow for
growth into a more enhanced electronic partnership with trading
partners. In order to create an efficient and automated supply
chain, full electronic linkage must be the norm.
The use of realistic timeframes for implementation of eCommerce
initiatives.
eCommerce implementations differ between organizations. It is
unrealistic to expect any company to comply with an arbitrary
installation deadline.
The implementation of eCommerce systems that are compliant with
industry standards and have professionals on hand to run them.
Whether trading partners have their own internal EDI staff or
outsource the technical aspects, the best use of EDI technology can
only be realized when dedicated staff manages the process.
Active promotion of participation in EC-BP to your trading partners.
An active EC-BP community of eCommerce users will become a guiding
force in the industry and mandate a standard level of service
provided to all trading partners.
