I did a quick analysis of all our mappings (mostly Retail) and found that for
outbound Invoice (810) mappings, there are only 185 different fields being
used. (These are specific fields that originate in tables like Invoice Header,
Invoice Details, etc.)
SrcTable IH SrcField AP_ACCOUNT count 1
SrcTable IH SrcField Bill_To_Addr_1 count 3
SrcTable IH SrcField Bill_To_City count 3
SrcTable IH SrcField Bill_To_Country count 1
SrcTable IH SrcField Bill_To_Name count 13
SrcTable IH SrcField Bill_To_State count 3
SrcTable IH SrcField Bill_To_Zip count 2
SrcTable IH SrcField BLading_No count 61
SrcTable IH SrcField Buyer count 1
SrcTable IH SrcField Buyer_Tel count 1
SrcTable IH SrcField Carrier_Name count 56
SrcTable IH SrcField Cartons count 54
SrcTable IH SrcField Currency_Code count 3
SrcTable IH SrcField Cust_Dept count 43
SrcTable IH SrcField Cust_PO count 118
SrcTable IH SrcField Cust_PO_4 count 1
SrcTable IH SrcField Cust_Vendor_No count 59
These are just a sample of some of the fields used by our mappers.
Many of these fields are only used by a single partner or version.
It would be very easy for VICS or a related group to publish an XML?? standard
that allows these 185 fields to be mapped to almost any existing ERP system.
In other words, each adapter only has to export these 185 fields, to automate
the translation of ERP to X12. This has always been the missing link... actual
fields used by actual systems.
I'm sure that the incoming Purchase Orders (850) require even fewer fields...
