RE: [BULK] Re: Building Maps in Gentran

Dan:
Haven't you heard the stories about companies implementing ERPs for 5
years? I've come across two companies like that. Isn't that 'awfully
expensive and resource consuming' as well? Sometimes it is not simply a
software install and configurations, it is also dealing with people,
business processes, limitations of proprietary legacy applications and
none-standard trading partner specifications. If you were fortunate
enough to have all of your implementations nice and smooth, you were
simply a lucky one.
No hard feelings.

I don't mean this as a knock on Ilia or anyone else who worked this hard
bringing up one trading partner on a new system, but to me this sounds
awfully expensive and resource consuming.

I have to agree with Brian.
When we first installed Gentran 'basic edition', we've spent 3 days
trying to configure it on the Hardware, Software, Network and Client
Access level. And we had someone from Sterling helping us, billing $200
p/h
As a Proof of Concept we've created a mapping environment for one
customer (1 810, 1 856 & 1 850 map only).
Between the application specialists and business people and 2 Full-time
Gentran specialists on premises it took over a month. Then we've tested
transactions we the Trading Partner, and had to go back and made even
more changes.
Sounds like rocket since to me.
