RE: [BULK] Re: Building Maps in Gentran

I had the identical experience with DEC*EDI. I started the job in April
and was scheduled for training in June. I opened up the tutorial and
started working. I learned very little in the class, but it was
definitely a confidence builder. And when I needed to learn Gentran, I
went through the step-by-step instructions in the docs which help you
set up an 850, an 810 and 997s. They were well written, the prompts and
steps corresponded exactly with the software (a rarity), and I found
them very helpful when I went through the process with other trading
partners. Having written test scripts and manuals myself, I appreciate
well written documentation.
Rocket science? No, but it does require that you put out a certain
amount of effort to try to understand.

I installed GT server and wrote maps for it at my company after reading
the
printed docs.
(I later felt I needed more, and went to columbus for training - only to
find out I had already learned more with the manual than the instructor
seemed to know.)
