I wrote a fairly indepth response to this yesterday but for some
reason it didn't post?

Anyhow, yes, our manager has never cared for gentran and told me to
find a new vendor a couple months ago. He said that at a good time bc
the minute we upgraded to the latest version, it started hanging
every night and about twice during the day during the week. One of
the problems is when a collection mailbox hangs in a "sending" status
to a MAPI or Email mailbox~none of the reports in those mailboxes go
out until the services are restarted. We had a case open for 2 months
with support. The other one I'm not sure what happens, but I'll look
in the scheduler and everything is just stuck in processing and again
I have to restart.

But now that I've been looking around, I really see how many other
features they offer that I took for granted.

But, it's got to go. :)

and... honestly, I'm looking forward to the challenge... I've been
using Gentran since I graduated from college back in the 90's. All of
the comments have been appreciated, thank you!

btw, I'm a she. ;)

He said he was on Gentran:Windows. Not sure of the version.
I agree that it's oftentimes easier to fix the cause of the breakage
than it
is to migrate to another platform, but this poster seems to have his
mind
made up.

What product are you currently on? Which version,
etc?
Are you sure that it is the Sterling product that is
the problem or your environment? I have never heard of
a Sterling product breaking (at least not on a Unix
system). What do you mean by "breaking"? I would
recommend you to move to a UNIX system.

If you were on a Unix system, I would advise you to
wait a bit and you could get SeeBeyond which will soon
be bundled into Sun's JES.

Otherwise I would go with GIS from Sterling. I would
not touch anything from GXS, unless I enjoyed having
nightmares.
