RE: [edi_gns] Cleo Lexicom vs GIS for AS2

Ken,
We began using GIS for the AS2 functionality in order to accommodate
Wal-Mart. We chose GIS with the hope to migrate from Gentran to GIS and
already have the AS2 functionality working, not to mention UCCnet. We
have done so after well over 6 months of in-house development. Having
AS2 integrated inside GIS makes it possible for us to bypass file-based
EDI processing and go directly from Partner to EDI System to ERP System
and vice-versa. We went live in December and have had minor glitches
pop up, but nothing we could not overcome. The only major complaint
with it so far is that the Standard Select rules do not provide detailed
information if an error occurs. But, Sterling has a fix for it in
development with a final deployment date of March.
As for FTP/FTP-S, I have one customer up on FTP and another one wanting
FTP-S. They both seem to function just fine and fast, however FTP-S
requires the trading of certificates and other validations that slow the
process down a few seconds. Also, in order for the FTP partner to
send/receive secure data we have to encrypt/decrypt the file first. All
done by using GIS functionality. (Encryption/Decryption actually done
through 3rd party software kicked off by GIS.)
Good luck.

Subject: [edi_gns] Cleo Lexicom vs GIS for AS2
Hi,
Does anyone have experience with both of these (or either)? We are a
Gentran Unix site, with plans to (eventually, maybe later this year)
migrate our EDI to GIS, but we need to roll out AS2 now. Is it going
to be faster to implement and easier to maintain AS2 using Cleo? Once
we are on GIS is there a compelling reason to then implement the GIS AS2
instead of continuing to use Cleo?
What about FTP/FTP-S? Which is easier/faster to get going with, and
more maintainable?
I guess underlying the above is the assumption that you wish to
implement this with available in house resources and not have a
requirement to use consultants to get this going (i.e. we are cheap, but
want reliable results).
Thank you.
Ken
