Your clients would be small enterprises who cannot / will not afford one
of the mainstream products. That means the integration with their
application would also have to be inexpensive, and you would have to
avoid their using one of the conventional, and expensive, VAN's. Such
firms seldom have inhouse IT expertise so unless your package is
bullet-proof your support would also have to be very cheap. You will not
make enough on the deal to afford much sales and marketing effort.

a) My firm tries to do all this.
b) If it were brought to us as a commercial proposition now we would
turn it down!

If only someone with a calculator and a sense of business demographics
had been around when they first thought about EDI.
