Anyone translating EDI to BPEL w/ Oracle 11i?

I am in the midst of investigating options for how our company will
integrate EDI supply chain docs (PO, Inv, ASN, etc.) with Oracle 11i.
We're looking at the XML Gateway (or is 'Ecommerce Gateway'?) and BPEL
(business process execution language). BEPL sound great but I know
nothing about it.

We're currently using a translator that converts everything to its own
XML internally before providing output. (called 'iWay') Sonic is our
current communication software but that will change to IBM middleware
soon.

Anyway, looking for any opinions on the use of BPEL... is it the
future of ERP and/or other backend system integrations or is it a here
today/gone tomorrow type of thing? ;)

Thanks for your thoughts,
Carl
