Re: [EDI-L] any comparison documentation of GIS to Datastage TX, etc.?

Jack

Yes, that is an old version; I started on that version over 10 years ago.
That was in the days when you could buy a production license for about £150
($200+). How times change, I know a development license cost my company £10K
when we bought it and companies I've worked for have spent several hundred
thousand on it (admittedly on clustered machines with hot standbys and
whatnot)... Still, I think DataStage TX is still the best "mapper" out there
– alas it has lost out I feel with the confusion over the name change (I
mean what sort of name is "DataStage TX" – at least "Mercator" has some
relationship and tie in on several levels with mapping?) and a lack of
direction in terms of sales. If your current implementation works (as far as
it goes) then I'd definitely look at upgrading – it'll be painful but no
where near as painful as redoing everything in a new solution. Not to over
sell, but if I can be of any assistance then let me know… I've done several
upgrades for a number of companies including GEIS (now GXS) and a couple of
banks (Deutsche Bank and Barclays Bank). I'd be more than happy to work on a
one-by-one approach to make sure you're comfortable.

If you go it alone, I'd make sure you get a fixed upgrade price from IBM
prior to upgrading and ensure you read up on all the "gotchas" prior to
starting the upgrade work.

Phil
