Yes, that is an old version; I started on that version over 10 years ago.
That was in the days when you could
buy a production license for about £150
($200+). How times change, I know a development license cost my company £10K
when we bought it and companies I've worked for have spent several hundred
thousand on it (admittedly on clustered machines with hot standbys and
whatnot)... Still, I think DataStage TX is still the best "mapper" out there
alas it has lost out I feel with the confusion over the name change (I
mean what sort of name is "DataStage TX" at least "Mercator" has some
relationship and tie in on several levels with mapping?) and a lack of
direction in terms of sales. If your current implementation works (as far as
it goes) then I'd definitely look at upgrading it'll be painful but no
where near as painful as redoing everything in a new solution. Not to over
sell, but if I can be of any assistance then let me know
I've done several
upgrades for a number of companies including GEIS (now GXS) and a couple of
banks (Deutsche Bank and Barclays Bank). I'd be more than happy to work on a
one-by-one approach to make sure you're comfortable.
If you go it alone, I'd make sure you get a fixed upgrade price from IBM
prior to upgrading and ensure you read up on all the "gotchas" prior to
starting the upgrade work.
Regards
Phil
