Southern California e-Business Forum MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT ? May 2 4, 2006

SCeBF MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT - May 24, 2006

The SoCal eBusiness Forum continues its coverage of RFID - Radio Frequency
Identification, a hot topic about which many of our members have expressed
great interest. At past meetings we have explored the technology of RFID
tags and readers, but having RFID tag technology is only a part of the
solution. To deploy RFID effectively, you need to move captured data into
your business application system. The use of "middleware" software as an
interface between the reader device and the user's business application
system has become a critical element in RFID processing. Come to this
meeting to learn the pivotal role of RFID application software in the whole
deployment process.

DATE: Wednesday, May 24, 2006 (NOTE UNUSUAL DATE)
PLACE: Southern California Edison Montebello Service Center
1000 Potrero Grande Drive
Monterey Park
(See Driving Directions below)

TIME: 8:30 - Coffee and Registration
9:15 - Meeting begins
10:30 - Networking break
10:45 - Program continues
12:00 noon - Adjournment

Meeting Hosts: Southern California Edison and Southern California e-Business
Forum

TOPIC: "RFID Application Software - The Glue that Makes It All Work"

As more companies investigate the use of RFID technology, a series of issues
needs to be addressed to ensure a successful RFID implementation. This
session will examine the requirements for a middleware solution set, and
help you pick the right solution for integrating RFID data into your unique
business application. These requirements must address several key issues:
* Minimize data volumes on the network as tag reads escalate

* Support inevitable changes to protocol and tag format standards, like
ISO and EPC global

* Integrate RFID applications with barcode technology and other
intelligent devices

* Integrate the RFID data into your business applications

* Simplify the management of RFID readers, printers, and other network
components even as the network stretches across multiple sites

* Secure your RFID network and its data as the number of devices
increases

SPEAKER: Martyn Mallick, Director of RFID and Mobile Solutions at iAnywhere,
a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc.

Marty is responsible for product management, business development and
strategy of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and mobile technologies,
including RFID Anywhere(tm). As a technology evangelist, Mr. Mallick has
worked directly with leading fortune 500 companies to implement innovative
"always available" enterprise mobility solutions. A champion of solutions
that enable mobile workers to remain productive regardless of network
availability, Mr. Mallick establishes future product direction and seeks out
innovative adoptions of RFID and mobile solutions.
