I think there is a very good point being made here, and one the originator of
the poll missed. The idea of doing a poll covering only the supposed "major
translators" is a fallacy. Sure, there will always be a few products in any
field more favored than others, but the products listed in this poll did not
cover all of those most of us would see as "major." The list was more along the
lines of those products with the most advertising and/or name recognition. Many
products with large customer bases were left out, and that is always a problem
with a non-scientific poll. The questions asked depend upon the knowledge and
prejudices of the formulator of the poll, and are not backed by enough research
to make it valid. The real point made was the fact there is a great deal more
to this than just a list of product names. The choice of any electronic
commerce product or service is not a popularity contest. It needs to be based
upon hard data.
