Subject: Reminder: Web Services on Demand - Monday 1-3:30 pm - Northwest EC/EDI Roundtable
Monday's program on Web Services should be interesting! And it's not too
late to sign up! Please send your name and citizenship to Leyla Beyaz by
5
pm Friday if you plan to attend. (Walk-ins are welcome, too, but should
come early so we can produce a badge on site.) Read on for the formal
invitation, agenda, speaker bios and driving directions.

Please join the Northwest EC/EDI Roundtable (<http://www.ecnw.org/>)
for our April program on Web Services. Please forward this notice to
anyone

worth
it!!!

1:40 to 3:20 Program: "Delivering Web Services on Demand - Sun ONE
and i2 Technologies"

Web Services is one of the hot new topics for today. Even though it
is not a new concept, there have been great advances in this technology
in
the last year, as well as some great case studies of successful
implementations. It basically is a standardized hook or interface that
makes
it convenient for software programs to share information with other
programs, applications or databases over the Internet. Where it is
especially useful is when these programs or systems reside in different
parts of the company or better yet, between two companies...integration
made
easy!

We are fortunate to have Steve Garone flying in from out of town to
talk about what Sun is doing in this space. Sun is focusing on the
enabling
technology and will discuss the core technology layer (e.g. java, XML,
etc.)
required to provide Web Services on demand and how this is different than
.NET.

We are also fortunate to have Keith Baranowski from i2 Technologies
come in from out of town to talk about how one software vendor is using
the
foundational software to enable web services. i2 will focus on the actual
service (e.g. configuration, freight rating, international trade
documents,
etc.) provided. i2 will discuss how this core technology gets leveraged
up a
layer in the application/ business logic environment where the workflows
are
central to providing Web Services on demand.

3:20 to 3:30 Questions & Networking
