Lawrence,
I don't know all the details of these new lost cost versions of Biztalk
but I think Microsoft has realized that not only is the SME e-commerce
market underserved but enterprise customers of Biztalk have been looking
for a low price point product like this for their small trading
partners.
I am only the messenger on this issue but to add to your last comment,
the one thing Microsoft has is R&D money. A publication recently
reported that Microsoft has $40 Billion cash in the bank.

We looked at BizTalk a few weeks ago as a possible EDI solution. This
article seems to be stretching reality a quite a bit. For BizTalk to
run,
develop maps, send and receive documents, and list errors, we needed VB
Pro
Workshop, Exchange Server, Visio, and several other high-ticket
Microsoft
products.
All for less than $1000? I do not believe it. We calculated more than
$50,000 for all of the software licenses for and to support BizTalk.
The
license must be only for BizTalk and it won't run without all the other
stuff.
IMHO, this product has nowhere near the value of the license Microsoft
expects, even when it is finished, ready to use, a few years from now.
