I agree totally that we already have everything we need to send fully
functional IG's to each other.
How about this for a challenge... since there is probably a representative
from all the major translator software houses reading this, what if you all
created a set of inbound and outbound maps for the IMPDEF on each of your
Generally Available (supported) translators (and on all your supported
platforms please!) Then make them available to your customers!
(Interoperability testing would be a BIG bonus too...)
This should be a farily trivial mapping exercise for the software maker, and
would IMHO do a lot to further the EDI process.
Just think... I could send an IMPDEF to a new trading partner and be
certain that my specs were loaded to their translators correctly! I could
receive an IMPDEF and know that I had not made a typo loading their specs!
Ah well, it was fun to start my day off with a little daydreaming ;)

Why adopt a different syntax in order to descrobe EDI IGs ? All
translators already have code to load, parse and process EDI
messages.
