Subject: RE: [EDI-L] XML HIPAA
Bob Criekz started this thread by saying: "I'm looking for an XML DTD or
Schema for the HIPAA standard transactions. I realize these are X12 and
NCPDP based, but I'm looking for a decent internal XML representation of
these transactions - hopefully something that is open, non-proprietary and
has a shot at gaining some industry acceptance after the HIPAA standards
move on past the current phase."

David Frenkel wrote: "There is nothing on the radar screen for HIPAA to use
XML."

I would offer this thought: If and when HIPAA steers in an XML-ward
direction, I hope those who design the XML messages would not want to simply
replicate the EDI transaction sets. A straight 1-to-1 conversion from EDI
to XML will solve nothing and ensure longer transmissions.

Best regards to all,
