No. Interchanges using the Tradacoms standard (a derivation of GTDI) can
be sent by any method. All the major VAN's are capable of transferring
them. Formally you are only supposed to use Tradacoms for trading within
the UK; presumably because the messages are designed to satisfy UK
trading requirements (predominantly in Retail).

Tradanet is now wholly owned by GXS. I think it started in the mid 80's
as a joint venture between Geis, ICL and the ANA (Article Numbering
Association. Possibly Sitpro were involved as well; I wasn't in the UK
at that time so please do not take this as gospel.

Tradanet uses the concept of Trading Relationships, by means of which
the network holds electronic mandates for the sending and receipt of
traffic with designated partners and/or application reference (message
class). Both partners in an exchange must establish the necessary
relationship or the traffic will be rejected with the notorious Error 2
code! You can cheat by setting 2 relationships for send and receive with
partner *ANYBODY and App Ref *ANY, but unless your partner(s) have
registered a relationship with you your traffic to them will still be
rejected immediately at submission level.
