C.J.> I think that Tradanet in the UK is based on the EDI*Switch technology.

M.B.> Actually it's hosted in Amsterdam and EDI*Switch is it's old name,
it's now just GXS Enterprise, we host one locally in Australia called
ecXpress.

C.J.> EDI*Express is a different network with a different user interface
protocol.

M.B.> They are different, but have similar basics. They both transmit,
receive and process EDI data with mailboxing for store and forward.
However, GXS Enterprise can process any data, while EDI*EXPRESS can only
handle EDI formatted data. There are many differences, but basically the
concepts are the same which is why I said Tradanet is equivalent to
EDI*EXPRESS.

C.J.> Both are run by GXS, and there can be some confusion when a
potential client says that they have a mailbox on the 'Geis network'!

M.B.> Tell me about it! It's no just "both" either, let me quickly list off
a few:

1. EDI*EXPRESS MKIII (U.S.)
2. EDI*EXPRESS MK3000 (U.S.)
3. EDI2000 (U.S.)
4. ecXpress (Australia)
5. ecXpress (Hong Kong)
6. EC-1 (Singapore)
7. EDI Malaysia (Malaysia)
8. ChinaPac (China)
9. ISID (Japan)
10. Tradanet (Europe)
11. FirstNet (South Africa)
12. GTSL (India)
13. SkyLink (Taiwan)
14. FijiNet (Fiji and Micronesian Islands including the U.S. Saipan Island)
15. GXS Thailand (Thailand)
(And there's quite a few others, these are just the ones that I have been
to).
(From 3-15 are all GXS Enterprise - a.k.a. EDI*Switch)
(Our global access directory has these details on our public GEGXS.net
website)

C.J.> To add to the confusion there are a number of initiatives around the
world called
Tradanet; not all of which are based on EDI*Switch technology.

M.B.> They are not all called "Tradanet" but you are right, there are many
and it can be quite confusing. Just look at the above! Also I have users on
the Australian service that reside in Holland, U.K., New Zealand, Hong Kong,
Singapore and Thailand. So just because you are in a certain country,
doesn't mean you are using that country's local service.

Cheers...
