RE: X12 tr sets for VMI

Suhas,
Generic VMI is usually geared to finished products for retailers or
wholesalers. The 852 is essentially sales information.
From your sketchy information I would say you are looking for unfinished
or raw materials for manufacturing from your suppliers. I would suggest
you look at the 830 transaction, Planning schedule with release
capability. The 830 is geared towards manufacturing.
Good luck.

Subject: [EDI-L] X12 tr sets for VMI
Hello Everyone,
We have a supplier with whom we are exploring the possiblity of doing
Vendor
Managed Inventory (VMI) by exchanging X12 (or maybe XML) documents. The
idea
is to send them our MRP data that contains demand/requirements &
inventory
information. Based on this information, they would create a PO & send it
to
us.
The question is: What X12 transaction sets can we use to exchange such a
type of data? Based on a very little knowledge that I have on the VMI
side,
we could use the 852 (Product Activity Data) to send MRP info. & get
back an
855 (PO Ack) (or maybe an 850-PO) from them. Secondly, is this (VMI) the
right approach for such a thing?
Any thoughts/suggestions will be appreciated.
TIA,
Suhas
