I'm not certain I see the difference between implementing a partner using an
XML data format and one using the ANSI X12 data format. Does anyone accept
and correctly interpret every ANSI X12 code in Table 235 for a
Product/Service ID? I suspect not. Has anyone ever implemented an X12
transaction without an Implementation Guide(IG)? Never, in my exeperience.
Has anyone ever correctly interpreted an IG without a phone conversation to
clarify an item or two. Not very often in my experience. The equivalent
process must be completed when using XML. XML Schemas obviously carry a lot
more information than does a DTD but it is still of limited use without a
pre-agreement on the semantic meaning of each element tag.
