RE: AS2 Information from Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

AS2 supports two modes of operation; "e-mail over HTTP" and the HTTP
standard file exchange protocol defined in RFC 2388 [1]. It's unfortunate
that Wal-Mart has chosen to limit their support of AS2 to the "e-mail over
HTTP" mode only.

If Wal-Mart had chosen to support the interactive HTTP based standard file
upload mode of AS2 (RFC2388), trading partners could have uploaded data to
Wal-Mart using nothing more than a web browser. By limiting support to
"e-mail over HTTP" mode, trading partners MUST purchase software in order to
send data to Wal-Mart.

I've included an HTML form to demonstrate the benefits of the RFC2388
approach supported within AS2. This approach has been used by the Energy
industry to support both interactive and automated B2B modes of data
exchange, since 1997.

What is also interesting is that any time someone mentions AS2 everyone
assumes
Walmart. We are doing AS2 with partners other than Walmart.
