RE: Gentran Integration Suite (GIS) AS2 Solution.

Hi,
If you have migrated as far as Gentran Server for Unix 6.0, you have a
product that supports both the old mapper (the Visual Mapper) and the
new Application Integration mapper. The way the upgrade to GIS works,
you continue to use Gentran Server while beginning to use the additional
GIS functionality. The Application Integration mapper is integrated
with GIS. You do not have to do a big bang to convert all of your maps
since you can run the products side-by-side. Since I consider the new
mapper to be better, I don't consider having to use the new mapper for
new development to be a downside.
You are right that there is not a tool to directly convert a Visual
Mapper map to AI (because additional logic beyond simple mappings is
implemented in completely different ways). Since you can invoke Unix
scripts etc. from GIS, I believe you could still run VM maps in a more
loosely coupled manner if you got to the point of wanting to leave
Server behind, but you would not have to do this since your license as
someone who has upgraded to GIS from Server (as opposed to someone who
bought GIS as a new customer and would never have Server) would include
the continued use of the Gentran Server product.
As far as the AS2 goes, the GIS EDIINT solution comes with a Gentran
adapter that is to allow integration of your EDI Traffic between Server
and the EDIINT module, so once again there is nothing forcing you to
rewrite all your maps to be able to take advantage of GIS and AS2.
Thanks.

Depending on which version Gentran Server for UNIX you are on. The
Gentran Integration suite uses a separate translator & mapper for which
there is not migration path. Our existing maps would have to be rebuild
by hand in the Gentran Integration Suite.
I suggest reviewing versions and compatibility for your particular
implementation.

Hi All,
Is anybody using GIS (Gentran Integration Suite) as AS2 solution, we are
currently using Gentran Server for Unix, and looking at this package. It
seem like this suite can provide the services for AS2 and integrates
good with Gentran Server for Unix. I would appreciate your opinion
about this package and/or if you know where I could look up any
evaluation information on it.
Thanks,
