RE: X12 vs: XML File Sizes

I don't share your opinion on the importance of bandwidth in constraining
the use of XML. Anything that adds complexity to the process works against
XML. It's being sold as the best thing since sliced bread to fix all the
problems with EDI. That means, to the people who believe in fairy tales, no
technical development. There are no plug and play solutions to the
bandwidth problem.
Since I never addressed the issue of difficulty beyond saying it would be
easier for two trading partners who don't already do X12 EDI I still fail to
understand why you throw comments about creating schemas into the
conversation. Start another thread on that subject. Hijacking threads is
considered very impolite.

Subject: RE: [EDI-L] X12 vs: XML File Sizes
Peter,
As my comments stated there are technologies to compress data files of
all kinds and these technologies are getting better. Bandwidth can be
an issue but it is not an insurmountable issue to resolve. Of all the
issues around XML bandwidth is probably pretty low on the concern list.
My comments also mentioned there are numerous products on the market to
help implement XML (and EDI) and I represent one of them. I have never
hidden the fact I am a vendor of a software tool that can help elevate
some if the concerns you have with implementing XML. I talk to people
all the time who use a text editor to create schemas and wonder why it
is so difficult and many are unaware of the products out there that have
a wide range of price depending on what they do ('you get what you pay
for').
