Re: what book version of x.12 should I own

I'll second, or perhaps 43rd, the notion that you should check with your
TP's for any implementation guidelines (sometimes called IG's or specs) for
any particular documents you are trading with them. Depending on the TP,
these IG's can differ SIGNIFICANTLY from the DISA or "standard" X12.
If you do wish to purchase the standards, there are electronic versions that
are much cheaper, and more useful and easier to keep track of than the
books. While I like EDISIM by Foresight (sp?) it is expensive, worth it if
you've got the budget, but expensive. On the other hand EDI Assistant is
inexpensive and quite adequate for most needs. It's not as pretty or full
featured, but if you just want a reference tool and have a smaller budget,
it's definitely the way to go.
All opinions are from my use of these products, I am not associated with
either of them in any way.
With either of them, you get ALL versions of X12 from 2001 to present and
then updates on a regular basis for a smaller charge. May even be included
in maintenance, I can't remember.
Good Luck,
Leah
